    Another Life (Part 5)

Rachael pulled into her driveway.  She had won a multi-million dollar client and as a reward the boss had given her the rest of the day off.  Rachael was pleased with herself, and planned on making a big celebratory feast for her family.  The kids wouldn't be home for another couple of hours, with Ian soon behind them.  As she turned the keys to the "off" position and withdrew them from the ignition, Rachael listened to the car engine wind itself down smoothly.  She opened the door, stepped into the sunshine and made her way to the front door.  After unlocking the door, Rachael walked inside, making a beeline to her bedroom so that she could get changed from her work clothes.

She turned the handle to her bedroom door and opened it.  What she saw unleashed a tidal wave of emotions through her body.  Hate, jealousy, panic, fear, anger and pain.  There was Ian, her husband, in bed with another woman.  The man that she vowed to love and cherish until the day she died was cheating on her.  In her own house, her own room and her own bed.  She felt sick to the stomach.

"How could you!" she screamed as she slammed the door shut and raced outside.  Rachael's stomach churned, tears forming in her eyes.  She fumbled with the keys as she opened the door to her car.  Once in the car, Rachael turned the ignition, slammed the car into gear and sped off.  She did not know where she was going, only that she was going away, away from him and that witch in her bed.  After driving a few blocks she pulled over to the side of the road and let the tears fly.  She felt betrayed, she felt heartbroken, but most of all she felt helpless and alone.  Rachael wept like she had never wept before.  She cried and cried and cried until there were no tears left.
